Devin's first full year in Rwanda was yesterday, the 25th of February. A few friends visited her with surprises to mark the occasion. Someone brought meat to cook. A housemate acquired a case of beer. Her Rwandan friends threw confetti on her.

reading the last pages of Freud
I always wanted to read Civilization and Its Discontents, and now I've read it. I am not as mad at him as I was in November and swooning under the effort of moving from Seminole Ave.

sadness
I hear people go through stages of grief about losing a job. I can't figure out how to maintain a positive outlook. I can't discern whether my hope of finding a way to make an independent living is realistic. All these years I've relied on the super-gigantic Catholic World for a living. I don't want to cultivate resentments... I'd like to uproot them and move on. But maybe I have to mourn first. So how do I mourn and prospect for work at the same time? How do I extricate myself from the vortex of self doubt, depression and fear. I want to visit Devin in June. If I don't secure work I'll end up spending dangerously close to all the money I have. But I don't think I can face life if I don't go to visit.

Beginnning of Harrowing Search for Gainful Employment

I figure I might as well start by making my efforts "public" so the I will be forced to follow through on at least some of the schemes that dally in my wandering mind.
Dresses with Pockets. Paintings. Art lessons. Yes.
Many scary but exciting prospects in going from the stress of teaching 500 kids a week to teaching only half that, having half the money and no health insurance. But looky-here: I will provide anyone who is interested with a glance into how it all goes. In the process I plan to learn several things:
1) How to write a blog
2) How to set up a web site
3) How to screen applicants for art lessons
4) How to find retailers for Dresses with Pockets
5) How to find art patrons who want the art things I'll gather, sort and make as soon as I get off the computer.
Anyone with suggestions on ways to go about these things, please tell me. Especially ideas for how and where to set up a web site for art and dresses.
In the mean time I need to study and write for class. So byeee.
